In my paper I plan to answer the question, How is social media effecting the hospitality industry and in what ways does it better the industry? Social media and the social network has really impacted the world today and the way we live our lives, the hospitality industry is rapidly growing and many hotels and restaurants are on the web, social networking. It is a great marketing tool for many of these operations. I already know a lot about social media and how it can be used for many different things. We all use it for facebook, and we even use it for classes such as blogging as we do here. Many of us enjoy the satisfaction of being able to use a computer and search the web, I am sure most of us do it everyday. So in that case companies and operations can use the web for advertising or even networking. I know of hotels that have facebooks and they let all of their "friends" know certain specials or deals you can get for the month or week. It is a fast way to interact with future customers or even past customers. You can answer questions that anyone may have and you can also let everyone see how willing you are to satisfy your customers. I also researched a company in vegas that has their own website which allows customers to interact with other customers before you even go on your trip. I feel that social networking and the media is am excellent way to sell whatever you are trying to sell. It also allows customers to give you quick feedback on their thoughts. I need to find out more operations that use this tool and I want to see if I can find more positive or maybe perhaps negative feedback on the social media aspect of marketing your business. An argument that may oppose mine is social networking is not a useful tool for the hospitality industry and there are better ways to do marketing. Some sources I have looked at so far is the "Journal of Hospitality Marketing and Management", "The Cornell Quarterly", "Marketing for Hospitality and Tourism"and I also found a couple newspaper articles, "Now, What happens Online Prepares you for Las Vegas" This was very interesting, it's the Vegas online social networking site.
